Bacon`s rebellion helped catalyze the creation of a system of racial slavery in the Chesapeake colonies. At the time of the rebellion, the hired servants represented the majority of the workers in the region. Wealthy whites were concerned about the presence of this great working class and the relative freedom they enjoyed, as well as the covenant that black and white servants had forged in the rebellion. Replacing bondage invaded by black slavery reduced these risks, reducing dependence on white servants, often dissatisfied and boring, and creating a racially defined caste of workers whose movements were strictly controlled. It has also reduced the possibility of new alliances between black and white workers. Ethnic slavery even served to heal some of the divisions between rich and poor whites, who could now unite as members of a “higher” racial group. 2. New Hampshire Province, founded in 1629; Merged in 1641 with the Massachusetts Bay Colony; In 1679, the colonies were established as a royal colony, forming members of elected officials, known as the provincial congress, and settlers began boycotting imported British products. [73] Later in 1774, 12 colonies sent representatives to the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia. During the second continental congress, the colony of Georgia also sent delegates.
The British and settlers triumphed together with a common enemy. The loyalty of the settlers to the metropolis was stronger than ever. But there have been disagreements. The elder British Prime Minister William Pitt had decided to wage war in the colonies with the deployment of troops from the colonies and British taxpayers` money. It was a successful war strategy, but after the end of the war, each side believed that it had carried a heavier burden than the other. The British elite, the most taxed in Europe, angrily said that the settlers paid little to the royal coffers. The settlers replied that their sons had fought and died in a war that served European interests more than their own. This quarrel was a link in the chain of events that soon made the American revolution. [61] Pennsylvania was founded in 1681 as a colony that owned the Quaker William Penn.
Among the main elements of the population were the population of Quakers in Philadelphia, a Scottish-Irish population on the western border and many German colonies in between. [28] Philadelphia has become the largest city of the colonies, with its central location, an excellent port and a population of about 30,000. [29] In 1738, an incident with a Welsh navigator named Robert Jenkins sparked the war between Britain and Spain.
